Position Description:
The Culture and Communication Director is expected to work under the overall supervision of the Academy’s Executive Director in directing the operations of the institution’s well-established Audiovisual Unit. The Academy’s Culture and Communication Department is a friendly and fast-paced environment with a small and talented team of various skills and backgrounds. The department has a well-established Audio Visual Unit that produces a wide range of audiovisual productions on a range of subject matter that includes Somaliland’s current socio-political and socio-economic development (see list). The Director will collaborate with the heads of the Academy’s other departments to ensure that the pillar is on target to achieving its stated objectives as part of efforts to bringing the implementation phase of the PoP to a successful conclusion.
???Direct the operations and activities of the Academy’s Culture and Communication Department in developing and executing support audiovisual materials and services for the organization’s respective research teams as well as management.
?Collaborate with the Programs Coordinator and respective research teams to conceptualize, prepare, coordinate and produce educational/informational videos, documentary films and related audiovisual material.
?Design, plan, develop, implement and manage all of the department’s operational strategies, marketing communications, as well as public relations activities of the organisation’s relevant pillars, entry points, projects and initiatives.
?Liase with and engage non-governmental agencies and other local/international civil society actors as part of effot to secure parallel projects and external funds.
?Provide technical and artistic inputs on the continuous development of the department’s operational guidelines and have the ability and competence to uphold them.
?Perform all other tasks of similar nature as assigned by the Executive Director and as may be required to meet the programme’s goals.
Expected Qualifications:
1.Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies, Mass Communications, Media Studies, or Journalism or any other relevant field in the communication sciences.
2.At least 5 years of experience in relevant /similar positions involving the production of well-researched audiovisual material.
3.Demonstrated managerial experience and ability to craft compelling documentary treatment and scripts required; and written and/or audiovisual material on governance and development issues an asset.
4.Excellent grasp of the country’s socioeconomic and socio-political dynamics essential.
5.Excellent communication skills in English, facilitation skills, creative thinking and good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
6.Proven computer proficiency required.

the Pillars of Peace (PoP) is an Academy-implemented/Interpeace-funded 3-year programme that aims to advance and underpin the consolidation of peace, stability and state-reconstruction in Somaliland, through consensus-oriented, integrated approaches to state building and peace-building. The pillars of peace are Democratization, Decentralization and Social Reconciliation. While decentralization has been a critical concern to Somaliland society, achieving an effective decentralized system of governance throughout Somaliland has met with serious difficulties since Somaliland’s declaration of independence in 1991.

The Academy’s headquarters is located in Hargeysa and has a sub-office in Burao, which covers the country’s eastern regions.
